Technical purpose foams
For easier orientation and consultancy the so-called technical purpose foams are treated separately from the comfort polyurethane foams. These foam products partially differ from the comfort foams in the application purpose, and partially have different substances and features.
Foam products used by the following industries are included here: packaging, automotive, electronics, construction, sporting goods, toys, leather and shoes, household.

Polyurethane foam types (Manufacturing, Processing/Converting)
Polyurethane foam has two main types: ester and ether based. Their properties can be varied in accordance with market requirements. Conventional foams have more than 50 types in the supply of Eurofoam Group only. These are different from each other mainly in their density and hardness.
The density of our conventional foams is in the range of 15 kg/m3 to 130 kg/m3, their hardness is 1.3 kPa – 13 kPa (density and hardness presented on a chart).
As the hardness allocated to a given density can be changed, by changing these two properties special effects meeting customer’s demands can be achieved. Consequently wide utilisation opportunities lie in these foams. They can be applied for packaging, vibration damping, sealing, flame laminating in the textile industry, and for upholstering.
The Sweepex® products are foams with irregular large cells that resemble sea sponge. The cell structure can be adjusted from extra fine to extra coarse. In addition it exists in antibacterial execution and with a reticulated cell structure.
These types are applied as “sponges” in the cosmetics and household industries.
Because of its eye-catching colours the S-2130 type is used in other areas also, such as packaging, toys or decorations.
Pottscorer is a product family that resists mechanical stress well. Due to its hardness, good abrasion resistance and tear strength is excellent for manufacturing cleaning sponges, massage sponges, paint rollers and polishing discs.
PADIFLEX, 26. BULFAST® S 35
Polyester based polyurethane foams developed specifically for the textile industry; they provide better light stability than the normal foams.
Bulfast® S 35 resists even the impact of direct light and does not get yellow. Therefore it is excellent for textile industrial applications such as: shoulder-pads, manufacturing of underwear and bathing suits and for all areas where the light stability of the foam is a requirement, such as for preparing decorations or incidentally for packaging.
In fact products called sponge in our everyday life also belong here.
Open cell polyurethane foams
BULPREN® S, R, D
Bulpren® S, R and D types are reticulated polyester based polyurethane foams. The foam structure is entirely open and does not contain any closed cells. This special material structure is achieved by thermal reticulation during which all cell membranes remaining after the foaming process are broken up and melt together with the cell rib.
Bulpren® S products are standard filter foams for general air filtering and are auxiliary materials of manufacturing ceramic filters used in aluminium metallurgy.
The compression strength of the Bulpren® R type is higher therefore we recommend to use it as auxiliary material for manufacturing ceramic filters applied in iron metallurgy.
Bulpren® D type is an increased flame retardant foam suiting standard MVSS 302.
All Bulpren models resist water, gasoline, alkali and detergents, as well as mineral oil and greases.
FILTREN T AND TM
Filtren T and TM are polyether based polyurethane foams. The controlled cell size and the open cell structure ensure reproducible filtering characteristics. They are ideal for the mechanical and biological filtering of water even in aquariums as they are non-toxic.
Filtren T type foams have much wider application areas. Application: water filtering, aquarium filtering, for installing roof ventilation. More recently they are used for garden pillows; this is made possible by the “dry-feel” – the quick drying feature.

MVSS ETHER FOAMS
Ether foams that meet the provisions of standard MVSS 302 applied in the automotive industry in 13 mm thickness belong to MVSS category.
AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY ESTER FOAMS
The ester foams in the automotive industry are generally applied in combination with other substances.
These types have additional properties compared to conventional foams, which have been developed specifically for the automotive industry:
- SF the so-called free from evaporation (low-fogging) types
- M foam types meeting the most stringent quality requirement of the automotive industry
- D complies with the provisions of standard MVSS 302
- E types that can be punched well
- SX odour free foams
- X low emission
All types can be flame laminated or combined with other materials (e.g. fabric, foil) using other technologies.
Lamiflex and Flikes foams are polyether foams that can be flame laminated and are primarily recommended for the automotive industry. They are flame retardant foams (MVSS 302) and foams with reduced evaporation and are primarily used in combination with other foams, foils, textiles etc.
Lamiflex can be applied e.g. in the shoe and leather industries or even for manufacturing sportswear.
Compared with conventional ester foams Lamiflex shows better results for some of its properties:
- better comfort
- higher flexibility
- lower evaporation
- similar behaviour against fire
The Flikes type is an ether type polyurethane foam that has an ester foam cell structure and can be flame laminated (consistent cell size) therefore it is excellent for automotive industry applications.
Fireflex® S type is a polyester based, while Fireflex® T is a polyether based soft polyurethane foam that complies with Class HF1 of standard UL 94 required by the electronics industry, and standard of MVSS 302 of the automotive industry.
Due to its good sound absorbing ability it is suitable to manufacture noise reducing covers in the automotive industry, electronics industry, for machinery and possibly for the wall cover of rooms.
Firend® is an impregnated polyurethane soft foam that is one of the best foam structure material from the point of resistance to fire. Firend® is the product that complies with most fire prevention standards.
It does not melt on the effect of heat and does not drop when in fire.

Polyurethane foams that can be used for insulation
Superseal is a water-repellent polyurethane soft foam with water sealing property, low water absorption ability and low air permeability. Therefore it can be applied successfully for air and water sealing.
Types: Superseal W, Superseal KD, Pureseal W and Pureseal DBR 100 with a high bulk density..
The main scope of application is the automotive industry where it is used in the following areas: sealing air-conditioning and ventilation equipment, mirrors, screens, doors, sunroof, and vibration and noise attenuation.
Special polyurethane foams for packaging
Eurostat® is a soft, ether based antistatic (ESD) polyurethane foam that meets the “D” classification according to the requirements specified in standards MSZ EN 61340-5-1 / 5-2. This product was specifically developed for the protective packaging of electronic spare parts.
It provides optimal protection against static discharges, shocks and vibrations. This ideal protection can be further enhanced when the foam is punched exactly to the shape of the product.
AEurocell is a polyether based polyurethane foam with a high apparent density. It is extremely elastic, almost like rubber, with a small permanent deformation and high hardness.
The scope of application is wide e.g. it is recommended for sealing, vibration damping, floor gymnasts like it as a mat, and it is even used in the shoe industry.
Compared to conventional polyurethanes Semi-Rigid foams show a very high hysteresis in the characteristics (this shows the rate of absorbing the dynamic energy applied on pressing the foam together, or the difference when pressing together-releasing). Because of this physical property the product can be favourably applied when lining packagings: it absorbs dynamic energy, attenuates shocks: complies with the drop-test i.e. the product does not get damaged when packed and dropped from 1.5 m height.
Composite polyurethane foam
Rebounded foams are recycled polyurethane foam products: they are prepared by using the residue foam produced during the processing of slabstocks with a dedicated technology.
Regarding their properties their flexibility is lower, hardness and bulk density is higher than that of other polyurethane foam types.
Scope of application: manufacturing of sporting goods, furniture, shoes. We recommend it as parquet flooring underlay and under wall-to-wall carpeting for sound insulation, to inhibit rumbling in machinery manufacturing, and also for packing heavy objects.
The choice is rather large, very easy foams with a bulk density of 40 kg/m3 are included in our supply as well as substances with a foam bulk density of 750 kg/m3. Rebounded foams with a foam bulk density of 100 – 200 kg/m3 are most sought for.
Polyurethane foam that can be thermoformed and thermocompressed
Urecom is a soft, reticulated ester based PU foam compressed with heat compression. Its characteristic feature is that it can retain very large quantities of liquids. Application area: e.g. ink feeder of toners.
This is nothing else than a thermoformable semi-rigid foam. This ether based brittle PU foam is used primarily by the automotive industry as roof and side upholstery and hatrack element.
